David loved riding anything with two wheels. His earliest memory is of his Dad teaching him to ride a bright orange bicycle around the back yard of their house. As he grew older his Dad would take him to watch motorcycle racing, riding to the racetrack on the back of his motorbike. This experience fired a passion in David that has lasted his whole life.
He passed his own motorcycle test at 17 and bought his first bike. Using it daily to ride over the bleak Pennine Moors where he was working for a local building company. Realising that the building trade was not for him and bored with his life, he joined the Army.
He trained on the south coast of England and passed out as a young Lance Corporal in the Military Police. David initially serving alongside Airborne Forces, where he qualified to ride Army motorcycles on operations. Postings to Germany and Northern Ireland followed and after 6 years service he left the Army and joined the Civilian Police.
David love for bikes continued to grow. He rode every day and soon decided that the UK was too small an island for bikes, so he started riding further afield. His Dad still held the same passion and soon, father and son began riding together across Europe and the UK.
As the years passed they rode through the Alps, Germany’s Black Forrest, Northern Spain, Italy, France the Pyrenees and across the whole of the UK. The two were inseparable and best friends but one ride changed everything.
During a trip to Lands End in the UK, David watched his Dad make a terrible mistake during an overtake. This mistake cost his Dads life and broke his son’s heart.

It is a poignant story told with humour and sadness and explains the passion bikers have and why event after such a tragic event, they still want to ride.
He is still a serving police officer and continues to work in road safety and casualty reduction to this day.
